Why Am I Sitting At The Edge Of My Seat?

Award-winning journalist Joseph Collum hits a bull’s eye with the first in his series of mystery novels called Brady’s Run. With scintillating attention to detail, Collum puts the reader squarely in the middle of this action-packed adventure set in the luxurious beachfront community of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It’s non-stop action as native son Max Brady is drawn into investigating who is muscling his friends into selling their motels, who killed one of his oldest friends in the process, and who is ruining his beloved beach. He finds himself up against the Mayor, the building code department head, a gorgeous real estate agent, and a crooked lawyer who represents a greedy real estate mogul trying to accumulate the motel properties to build a high-rise resort guaranteed to steal the sun from the beach. Max Brady, with the mental tenacity of the hurricanes that are bedeviling Southern Florida, will not be swayed from the task of finding justice for his friends even as memories of his dead wife Victoria color his judgment and stifle his love for the new woman in his life called Rose. And yet Brady cannot be stopped, even by the physical treachery of Adonis Rock, the enforcer for this motley group of miscreants, from doing what he must to protect the community he loves.

The adroit way that the author manipulates the major characters and plot lines in this cutting edge novel keeps one turning the pages to find out what happens. It doesn’t hurt that the blood and guts Adonis the enforcer extracts from nearly everyone involved including those who hired him is detailed in lusciously excruciating detail, sparing none of the participants or our hero, Max Brady. This must-read creates a new high in mystery book entertainment value. With the full force of a hurricane rushing to an unknowable conclusion, the final pieces of the puzzle skillfully fall into place leaving the reader with a rush like a strong wind equal to a punch of adrenalin.

I recommend this book to mystery-lovers, readers looking for fast-paced entertainment spiced with a touch of romance, and anyone who loves a memorable hero. Collum has definitely hit a home run in the first book of the Max Brady Mystery series.
